Webinar discusses opportunities for Israeli foodtech sector in the Brazilian market
This Wednesday, May 13, Israel Trade & Investment Brasil, in partnership with the Israeli Export Institute, organized a webinar on the food market in Brazil. The initiative, aimed at Israeli foodtech companies, was attended by Paulo Silveira, founder of the Food Tech Hub BR, Grazielle Parenti, Global Corporate Affars Director BRF and Joao Alexandre Lopes de Carvalho, Digital Strategy and Innovation Advisor LATAM at Cargill.
During the webinar, the Brazilian market opportunities for Israeli companies and the growing demand for innovative products were presented.
BRF, for example, created the BRF Hub - a connection channel between BRF and the open innovation ecosystem in Brazil and the world. According to Grazielle, the company is in constant search for news in the foodtech sector. Paulo Silveira, in turn, highlighted the main trends in the Brazilian food market. Silveira considers alternative proteins, food waste and food safety solutions, as opportunities for Israeli startups in the sector. In addition, Joao Alexandre, stressed the importance of investment in technology for Cargill, exemplifying with investments already made by the company in Israeli startups.
A report by the Israeli Innovation Authority reveals that, in recent years, the foodtech sector has been growing in Israel, largely due to startups and the implementation of technologies from different fields, bringing a new type of innovation that aims to integrate the industry global food. This presents Israel with global challenges and opportunities for which Israel's industry must prepare. While in 2014 there were 170 companies active in the Israeli food technology sector, in 2018 there were more than 300 startups in the sector.
The main subsectors that the Israeli foodtech stands out are: Meat grown in the laboratory; sugar reduction and sugar alternatives; new sources of protein; nutrition and personalized food products; monitoring and food security throughout the production chain; digitization, connectivity and food applications, from farm to table.
